Hi Harish,

I am glad that you enjoyed my post where I am making fun of the airline industry ... but you correctly point out that we passengers can do some silly things too and by silly I mean dumb.

Thanks.

I've made many trips in my lifetime and on the whole never had reason to complain. You've put a great article together here and I did smile somewhat as I read. Particularly the point on baggage. People do seem to pack for a year when their only going on a weeks holiday - what's that about?

Anyway, thanks and have a good week,
Harish.

Hi Victoria,

Thanks for your comment. Sometimes, I think that we are seeing the end of good customer service ... I hope not.

Also, thanks for the tip about "complaining." This book sounds like an excellent resource for those of us who like to travel.

Thanks.

My husband and I have been taking 2 organized tours a year for several years and have experienced tours without food, guides who get lost on treks, and less-than-advertised accommodations.

With most American tour companies, within days of coming home, you receive a questionnaire. My husband and I always respond with suggestions and our complaints. We have found that U.K. tour companies do not send out questionnaires.

In fact, one U.K. trip was so disappointing that my husband wrote a 7-page letter detailing each day's hardship.

My own letter was called "The Starvation Trip to Tibet."

We never got a response so I brought the book
A Complaint is a Gift: Recovering Customer Loyalty When Things Go Wrong. I now know how to complain and get results. There's an art to getting heard that Janelle Barlow lays out for the consumer.
